Aug. 31: New week, new camera

Hope you all had a great weekend! Just a reminder that we will be closed next Monday (Sept. 7) for Labour Day.

We bought a new camera on the weekend - hurray! Back in business with the doggie photos. Today's class photo is pictured above. As of 1 p.m., we have 18 dogs here. All very good dogs, of course. :-)

The morning walks are done and lunches have just been fed.

So what's up?

* Molly (Min Pin cross, pictured left) has been playing tug of war with Bechler, wrestling Heidi (shnoodle) and chasing Rico (pug-cross) around. Rico and Umber (chi) have been chasing each other around, pouncing like on springboards.

* Umber also loves Jones (Bischon) and Lexy (chi-silky terrier). The three of them have been chasing tails!

* Jones has also been playing with Bechler, Heidi, Spike & LG, and Jasper and Casper, chasing them around on the ramps. Casper had a wrestle match going on with Heidi, too. These guys have the most energy in the morning, running all over the place.

* Bechler is the other speed demon, zooming around, getting everyone excited in games of chase. He tried to play with Dempster (American cocker spaniel) but his energy frightened the puppy a bit.

* Dempster's best buddies today have been Molly, Jones and Umber. That's him pictured left, taking a rest flat-down on the pavement.

* Bobo (maltipoo) was so excited to come play! His little bum and tail were wagging like crazy. He's been running around with Bechler and Heidi.

* Buttons (cockapoo) enjoyed her walk today. Pat took her and Rico on a different route to mix it up, and they were all sniffy and excited. We're wondering how Buttons is settling in to her new home?

* Enid (Jack Russell) loved her walk with Pat and Umber. We're excited to meet her new sister - another Jack Russell!

* Mico (shih tzu) really likes Jones, the Bischon. They've been running circles around each other (literally).

* Pictured left: Bechler makes a funny face.

* Right now, Theodore (Yorkie) is chasing after the ball with Heidi and Lexy.

* Sebastian (mini poodle) hasn't done any playing yet this morning. He looooved his walk with Pat and Bobo though.

* Heidi ate most of her kibble. She was excited to go play again.

Aug. 28: Happy Birthday Winston!

Winston (beagle-King Charles Cavalier) has turned two and he came to Small Paws to celebrate with all his furry friends. Happy bday, buddy! Sorry for the delay in getting this blog up today. Yeesh! We've been having major technical difficulties this week. Our camera bit the dust, and today we borrowed one, only to discover we didn't have the cable to plug it in to the computer, and the batteries were dead...

Well, we got there in the end.

So what's been going on? Well, it was PAW-TY time today! Lots of games, chasing, runnning around, fetching after the balls...

* Also, Chloe (black maltipoo) returned to daycare for her second day and made some new friends. She likes little Sofie (Yorkie) and Heidi (shnoodle). Actually, Sofie, Heidi and Jasper (Coton de Tulear) were a ball of playfulness this morning.

* We also had a high-energy pack chasing each other around, including Bechler (Boston Terrier), LG & Spike, Heidi, Jude (puggle), Jasper & Casper and Frankie (Boston). Theodore (Yorkie) was right in there too, chasing after the ball and chasing Frankie.

* Oh, and how could I forget Molly (Min Pin cross)? She's little Miss Playful as usual, entertaining the fast-moving pack, and also mingling with the little chihuahuas like Mika, Dawson and Bella (chi-cross). Dawson was also going at it with Frankie and Coco, and Bella had a good tug of war match going with Molly.

* Coco (shih-apso) wins the prize for COOLEST hair cut. He looks like a little lion, with the puffy paws and poof on the tail and hairy head. Love it. He sure was a playful little thing today, wrestling with Molly, Dawson and Jude.

* Sebastian was getting cuddles from Dawson. Maximus (terrier) and Enid (Jack Russell) have been hanging out with each other and the rest of the pack.

Aug. 27: Welcoming Snuggles & Chloe

Introducing two new dogs to the pack... Snuggles (shih tzu-cross) and Chloe (maltipoo). Both dogs are doing great, getting along with the pack and the humans. Unfortunately our camera broke 2 days ago so we're without photos at the moment. Sorry about that! We will be borrowing one for tomorrow (it's Winston's birthday paw-ty) and hopefully buying a new one over the weekend. So the morning walks are done, lunches fed, and the pups are playing right now. Seeings as we don't have any new pix, I have uploaded an oldie but goodie of Bailey (Yorkie-cross) and Charlie (Pom-cross), who are here today! This is what else has been going on: * Mika (chi) is chasing Dawson (chi) and Molly (Min Pin) around right now, tails wagging, all hopping and prancing about. So adorable. * Chloe (maltipoo) was great with the dogs but a little shy on her first day, as expected. Her best buds were Dawson (chi) and Jones (Bischon), who gave Chloe kisses. :-) * Snuggles is getting along great with all the dogs and is very friendly. All the dogs loooove her. Pat took her for two walks this morning - she enjoyed them very much. * We were 15 minutes behind on started lunch today and Buttons' internal alarm clock started going off... Pat and Nigel were talking to customers at the time, and Buttons started staring at Pat, watching her every movement. It wasn't until Pat grabbed the fork that she knew it was time. Squeal!! Hop!! Hop!! Yay!! * Rico (pug cross) has been playing lots with Molly, Emmi (Italian Greyhound) and Cassie (shih tzu/bichon). Actually, Cassie has been having a blast, wrestling with Gus (Yorkie-cross). Emmi's been wrestling lots with Rico, and Peanut's been wrestling and chasing Emmi. * Emma (miniature dachshund) is hanging out in the big room today. She's chilling out on the dog bed right now with her buds. Her best friends are Mika and Lexy. * Spike and LG are passed out right now but they were little balls of energy all morning, zooming around after Jones on the ramps. * Bailey and Charlie are happy to be back, going around sniffing all the new dogs and saying their hellos. We were happy to see them, too! Bailey was playing with Bobo and Charlie has been wrestling Bailey mostly so far. * Sasha (Papillon) has been playing with Jones this morning - they're best friends! * And Sebastian has been playing with Molly. So lots of fun and games...! We'll be starting round two of potty breaks and walks at around 3 p.m. Did your dog eat? * Molly ate breakfast. * Buttons ate all her lunch. * Dawson ate half her lunch. * Gus ate half. * Bobo at half. * Sebastian wasn't hungry.

Aug. 26: Spaw Day!

Sorry, no pix again today... our camera has officially packed it in. We'll be buying a new one later this week, hopefully, in time for Winston's birthday paw-ty on Friday. But just so this blog isn't totally picture-less, I have uploaded an archive photo of Spike and LG in the blue tunnel. It's a good one! So we have 26 dogs here on the 26th of August. That must be good luck? The morning walks are done, Pat is feeding lunches, and as you can imagine, it's been a madhouse of morning activity. * We've got one play-pack rolling around, including Molly (Min Pin cross), Ozzy (Min Pin), Jude (puggle), Chico (chi) and Heidi (shnoodle). At the moment, Jude has a good tug-of-war game going with Rico (pug-cross). * Speaking of tug of war, LG had stiff competition earlier from Theodore (Yorkie). Little Teddy loves his toys and wasn't going to give up. LOL. LG and brother Spike have been chasing Jude and Heidi around, but LG had a time out today for snapping at Rico. Just like kids! * The chihuahuas have been frolicking, too: Mika, Chico and Umber doing this adorable tail-wag and prance dance at each other. Jones (Bischon) likes playing with these pups, too. * Chico is Mr. Playful, also running around with Dempster, Charlie (Bently) and Bently. * Umber also likes wrestling with Katie (sheltie) and Bently (Yorkie) and Chico. At one point, Katie, Jones, Umber and Charlie were all wrestling together in one big ball! Dempster (American cocker spaniel puppy) looooves playing with Chico too. Dempster is getting his hair cut in the Spaw today! * Rico (pug cross) looooves Sofie (Yorkie) and Jones and Jude. * Maggie (Cairns Terrier) has been going at it with Molly, doing her rolling around on the ground/breakdancing manoevres. * Lola (cockapoo) has been playing with her buddy Pepe (Havanese). She's was also in the Spaw this morning, getting her bath. Hair cut/tidy to come... * In the laidback pack, we have: Spike (shih tzu), Diamond (Papillon), Buttons (who was sharing her bed with Maggie and then Diamond), and Mico, who was a little angel for her grooming earlier. Also in this pack: Tuka and Snoopy, who enjoy mingling with the pack and observing the show. * Sebastian loooves playing with Charlie (shih tzu) and Bently. Aug. 25: Bye bye camera

Yet another camera has been added to the camera graveyard. We need dog-proof, water-proof and bullet-proof technology around here! Sorry, but there are only a couple of photos today, before the camera conked out. Also, it may take us a few days to shop around for a new digital camera, so hang tight.

As for today, the morning walks are done, lunches are fed, and the pups are playing chase right now.

* This morning, Sofie (Yorkie, pictured left with Jones) had a blast wrestling with Jones (Bischon) and Dempster (American cocker spaniel). Dempster has been getting along great with all the dogs. He especially loves Molly (Min Pin cross).

* Molly has also been playing with Dawson (chi) ... and pretty much everyone, actually.

* Marley (Havanese) immediately hooked up with her buds Spike, LG, Jones, Mika and Lexy for a blast around the room! Jasper and Casper joined in, and started frolicking around with Sofie and Jones. One big ball of fun.

* Sebastian (miniature poodle) has been Mr. Playful this morning, chasing Dawson and Dempster around.

* Maximus (Yorkie) has been chasing after the ball with the pack (often the first to get to it first!). He's also been playing with Jones. And who else has been playing lots with Jones? Sasha! The Papillon has been super playful this week, really coming out of her shell. She loves Jones and Sofie.

* I would love to tell you that Buttons had a playing spurt today, but she's doing her usual sophisticated, laidback cruise around the pack. Dogs run up to her and give her kisses (Lexy and LG loooove her). She's kind of like the Queen of Small Paws!

Doggie daycare this week (Aug. 24 - 28)

Just a couple of points to note for this week: * We still have lots of space for daycare on Wednesday (Aug 26). Call (778-370-0456) or email us (info@smallpaws.ca) if you'd like to add your dog to the list. Even if you just call on the day, we can probably fit your pup in. * We'll be throwing a doggie birthday paw-ty for Winston on Friday. Angie and Pat will be here to help out and the party will start at 2 p.m., so the blog will be posted a little later than usual. Also, photos won't go out until the afternoon. Aug. 24: Sunny, happy Monday

Happy Monday, everyone! The sun is shining, the dogs are frolicking, people are smiling...

We've got a great pack in here today and they're full of beans. Also, it's great to see a couple of faces back again who haven't been for a while: Enid (Jack Russell) & Milky (Bischon/poodle, pictured left).

The morning walks are done and lunches fed, so we're in that afternoon playtime mode before round 2 of potty breaks. Sorry about the delay in getting the blog up today - busy, busy.

* So let's say hi to Milky, who we haven't seen for a while. Sebastian (mini poodle) sure was THRILLED to see her. Yay - his best playmate is back! He also loves Dempster, the new American cocker spaniel puppy. Milky has also been wrestling lots with Ozzy and Heidi.

* Pictured left: Dempster tackles Emmi (Italian Greyhound). He's a cute little pup. He also loves playing with Molly (Min Pin cross). Speaking of Molly, she's staying with us right now for boarding. She was a very good girl last night - her first night. SO excited, bouncing off walls!

* Great to see Enid back again, too. She likes the new pup, Dempster, and was really happy to get a treat from the mail lady Candy on her walk today.

* Spike and LG have been chasing Heidi (shnoodle), Ozzy (Min Pin), Molly and Theodore (Yorkie) around, and playing with the new puppy, Dempster. LG has a good match of tug-of-war going on with Theodore right now.

* Pictured left: LG and Jones. Jones has been having a blast with Milky, Emmi and Dempster.

* Buttons (cockapoo) looks cute and summery with her new hair cut. She enjoyed her walk with Pat and Dempster, forced to pick up the pace to keep up with the new puppy. :-)

* Peanut and Emmi have been playing with each other, and Emmi has been wrestling with Dempster and Sofie (Yorkie). Sofie got lots of kisses from LG when she arrived, too.

* Pepe (Havanese) loves Sofie and got kisses from Sasha (Papillon). What a lady's man/dog! We hear he ate a bone last night, but don't worry, he's fine - he's been rolling around, playing.

* Speaking of Sasha, she made a new buddy today - Dempster, the puppy. They've been playing this morning.

* 3 p.m. Update: Sasha and Sofie are going at it! Wrestle mania! And Linus has just joined in for a little dance. Too cute. :-)

* Right now, Dempster is passed out (nap time). He's cuddled up to Linus (miniature dachshund). We haven't seen Linus for a while either - welcome back, buddy!

Aug. 21: Happy 2nd Birthday Tonka!

Tonka (miniature dachshund) is celebrating his second birthday with his furry friends at Small Paws. And as you can see, he sure loved his cake. Paw-ty time!

It's a busy Friday, with lots of wrestle matches and chase games going on. Thankfully, it's a little cooler for doing the walks.

Tonka shared his birthday doggie cake with his friends, and now Judy is feeding lunches.

Here's just a few of the activities/playing matches that have been going on:

* Rico (pug-cross) has made a new friend - Boomer (see yesterday's blog entry). The two of them, plus Jude (puggle) and Heidi (shnoodle) have really hit it off.

* Frankie (Boston Terrier) has been having a blast playing with Jude. Jude is Mr. Popular, also wrestling with Bobo (maltipoo), Tui and Emmi. Tui has also been chasing Rico around, and Alley chases from not far behind.

* Here's a pic above left of new best friends, Rico and Boomer.

* Jasper and Casper were so happy to see their friend Heidi here today. The three of them love playing chase - especially over the red ramps in the back. Spike & LG always join in the chase, too.

* Pictured left: Sheraz (miniature schnauzer) and her friend Maximus (terrier). Both are very laidback. Also in their chilled pack are: Buttons (cockapoo) and Mico (shih tzu). Right now, Buttons is snuggled up next to Sebastian on a blanket.

* Oliver (chi) has been a little timid today, mostly hanging out with Mika (chi), Lexy (chi-cross) and Max (Yorkie).

* Jones (Bischon) and Max (Yorkie) are so adorable together. They've been pouncing and chasing up a storm these past couple of days. Max is usually pretty shy but he just loooooves Jones. Jones also really likes Mika (Maltese). Mika is on the timid side, but Jones is really welcoming and gentle with her.

* Gus (Yorkie-cross) has been playing lots with Heidi. I forgot to write in Wednesday's blog how he has a girlfriend... he and Maggie (Cairns Terrier) were pretty much inseparable. They've become Wednesday play pals.

* Here's another cute pic: Jones on one of her favourite chairs, with Jasper.

* Emmi (Italian Greyhound) is here without her sister Peanut, but has been doing lots of playing. I love this photo below that Nigel took took of Emmi and Jude.

* Scruffles (shih tzu) was super excited to come and see her friends. She's always such a happy, playful puppy. All the dogs - and humans - love her.

* Mika (Maltese) surprised us - she ate for the first time! She didn't finish her kibble, but ate maybe almost half.

* Gus (Yorkie-cross) ate most of his lunch.

Aug. 20: Introducing Boomer

Check out this lovable face... introducing Boomer, a 12-week-old English/American bulldog crossed with pug.

Boomer actually looks a lot bigger in the photo than he is in real life. He's a floppy, cuddly puppy.

He's been doing lots of playing and making many new friends. He especially likes playing with Jones (Bischon), his new girlfriend, and Nikko (poodle).

Nikko is also back today for his second ever visit to daycare. It was his first birthday yesterday, so his mom brought in some leftover doggie bday cake to share with his new friends.

He's been doing some playing today with Boomer and Tofu (Bischon). Tofu also really likes Jones.

It's been a fun morning so far. Everyone's gone out for their morning walks and lunches have been fed. It's warming up out there! Nice 'n cool in here though.

Also going on this morning:

* Buttons (cockapoo), striking a cute pose in the photo to the right. Hilarious!

* Max (Yorkie) is quite the lady's man today. He has TWO new girlfriends: Umber (chi) and Jones (Bischon). Check out this photo below of Max cuddling up to Umber on the chair.

* Umber has also been playing with Gus (American cocker spaniel) and Jones. Jones seems to be feeling much better today - she was a little grumpy yesterday after getting a shot at the vet, but is back in terrific playing form today!

* Check out this photo of Gus, looking all blissed out with the rope toy.

* Sebastian (miniature poodle) loves his new buddy, Nikko. The two of them look the same and have similar personalities. They're a bit of a tag-team.

* Speaking of tag-teams, the winning team goes to Tui and Alley, who are never far from each other. They've been getting some good playing in with the other dogs today though, too - especially with Umber the chihuahua and Gus!

* And the contenders for the tag-team contest today are: Spike and LG. These boys are pretty independent but love to gang up together to chase other dogs and run after the ball, and to tackle/wrestle other dogs.

* In third place, today, are our two: Mika and Lexy, pictured left. Mika's the quiet follower and Lexy is the bossy, vocal (that's a polite way of putting it) one who likes to police the place and make sure all the dogs are behaving.

Aug. 19: Puppy love

Here's Scruffles, sending you all cuddles... We've got a really fun pack in here today - lots of playful dogs, not overly hyper, mixing well together with little bouts of wrestling matches and chase games. Also, we've got a full staff: Nigel, Katya, Judy, Angie and Maori (grooming in the Spaw). Right now, Pat and Judy are chucking the ball, and you should see the pack chasing after it - Katie, Spike, LG, Molly, Gus and Gus (two Gus's), Lexy, Maggie, Casper... uh, pretty much everyone, actually. They're pretty noisy right now, barking EXCITEDLY! The morning walks are done and we've just finished lunches.

* Casper and Maggie (Cairns Terrier) have been rolling around on the ground, wrestling, and chasing each other around. Oh, wait - now Casper and Rico are playing tag! * Tui and Alley have been a lot more playful these past couple of days (especially Tui) - chasing each other around and wrestling with Jones (Bischon) and Heidi. Sebastian (mini poodle) has been hanging around with Jones all morning. He loves her. * Then we have the Ozzy (Min Pin) - Molly - Jones - Oliver (chi) - Max (Yorkie) pack, who've been chasing each other around. Sasha (Papillon) just arrived and is following these guys around. * Molly had a good tug-of-war match with Gus (cocker). Scruffles and Gus (Yorkie) have also been chasing each other around. Gus (Yorkie) has been playing with pretty much everyone. * Sheraz (miniature shnauzer) and Tuka (American eskimo - pictured right) and Buttons (cockapoo) have been chilling out together. Aug. 18: Happy 1st Birthday Ozzy & Mika!

We're having a double birthday paw-ty in here today... yipee! It's all fun and games, cakes, party hats and playtime. We've got the toys out and some are playing tug-of-war, but mostly their favourite games are chase and wrestle. Here's a photo of Ozzy (Min Pin), who just turned one, really enjoying his cake. And here's Mika (Maltese) digging in to her birthday cake. She just turned one, too! Also, we have a new dog here today called Nikko (poodle - pictured left) who looks a lot like Sebastian (pictured right). Nikko's turning one tomorrow and is having fun exploring the place and making lots of new friends. The morning walks are done and lunches have been fed. Busyy day, with all the birthday celebrations. Aug. 17: Introducing Dempster

Say hello to the new doggie - Dempster! He's an adorable American cocker spaniel puppy and has just been having a blast with all of his new friends this morning. Very playful.

He's really hard to take a photo of because he runs around so quickly (as of 12:30 he's still going!).

He especially likes Tofu (Boston-Bulldog), Bechler (Boston) and Danger (maltipoo).

* Tofu (pictured left) hasn't been here for a while, so he's catching up on lost time, zooming around with his buddies. He's grown since we saw him last!

* We also haven't seen Tui and Alley for a while - welcome back! They're a little tag-team, following each other around everywhere and playing with the toys. They've also been playing a little with Umber (chi).

* Oh, and it's good to see Marcello back again, too. He's been catching up with all of his buddies.

* Bechler, Heidi (shnoodle), Molly (Min Pin-cross), Spike (Yorkie), LG (Yorkie-cross), Jasper & Casper (both Coton de Tulear) have been chasing each other around - surprise, surprise.

* Just check out this photo to the left of Dawson (chi). She's been playing lots with our chihuahua Mika, plus Molly and Umber.

* Little Frank (Yorkie) is getting much more confident here, but he just has a timid personality. He's a lot like Max (Yorkie - pictured below left with the ball). Same size, a little shy, but once they find a little buddy, they love to play. Both these pups are here right now so I'm hoping they'll become good friends.

* Theodore (Yorkie) is also here, but in comparison he's very fiesty - he doesn't realize his size! We just saw him take on Bechler the Boston Terrier because he got in his way (not fighting, but barking at him to buzz off).

* Now for the more laidback dogs, who've been hanging with the pack and keeping involved, but not actively playing. This includes Sheraz (miniature schnauzer), who's always such a good girl. She gets along great with all the dogs and humans and loves her walks.

* And then there's Buttons (cockapoo), who's adored by many of the dogs here - and humans! - and she looooves her food. * We can't forget Mika (maltese), who's getting braver by going up to other dogs and sniffing and following them around. Her best friends here today are Tui and Alley and Danger.

* Sheraz ate all her breakfast.

* Buttons ate all her lunch.

* Tofu ate his kibble, and also managed to break into Dawson's room and steal some of her meat. Yum, yum...

* As for Dawson, we gave her her kibble mixed with the rest of the meat. She was hungry and ate quite a bit of the kibble!

* Molly ate all her lunch.

* Dempster ate all of his lunch.

* Mika (maltese) wasn't hungry.

* Jasper and Casper ate all their lunch.

* Max ate a little bit for lunch.

* Danger ate a little.

* Heidi ate all her lunch.
